Convex and concave, part 2: images of emptiness in men

Article Abstract:

The effects of an absent or extremely distant parent on a young child are lasting and pervasive. Upon reaching adulthood, men are vulnerable to internal feelings of emptiness from their lack of parental attention resulting in failed attempts to find meaning and nurturance in the external world.

Images of emptiness in women are discussed, based on psychoanalytic case studies. Differences and similarities between men's and women's experiences of emptiness are also considered.
