Death by inmate: multiple murder in a maximum security prison

Article Abstract:

Prison overcrowding, prisoner psychopathology and ethnicity are factors which contribute to inmates murdering other inmates. Analysis of the murders of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and a fellow inmate by a third prisoner reflect these factors. The psychological makeup of the victims and killer was the primary cause of the murders, but prison overcrowding should also be considered when placing individuals in maximum security facilities.

Article Abstract:

Sixteen children, ranging in age from 8 to 10 years, and meeting diagnostic criteria for oppositional defiant disorder, were studied to verify the efficacy of karate, a complex psychomotor activity that enhances self-regulation and executive skill. Results reveal that karate, when properly taught, can be a useful adjunct in multimodal programs aimed at externalizing behavior reduction.
