Decisions not to report sexual assault: a comparative study among women living in Japan who are Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and English-Speaking

Article Abstract:

This article examines factors associated with failing to report sexual assaults among Asian and English-speaking women living in Japan. Findings indicate that the most common reasons for not reporting sexual assaults include not taking the crime seriously and fears of police, retaliation, being too young, embarrassment, causing trouble, and confidentiality violations.

Weapon ownership and the willingness to respond to threats with violence: the United States and Japan

Article Abstract:

American men are approximately twice as willing to use a weapon as Japanese men in responding to a threat. This is mitigated by weapon ownership, which doubles violent response for Japanese and by eightfold for Americans.
