Severity of homelessness and adverse birth outcomes

Article Abstract:

This article examines the relationship between homelessness severity and the prevalence of premature births and low birth weight babies among women at a Los Angeles homeless shelter. Results indicate that homelessness severity is significantly correlated with adverse birth outcomes and that African Americans and Hispanics have the highest risk.

Infant birth weight among women with or at high risk for HIV infection: the impact of clinical, behavioral, psychosocial, and demographic factors

Article Abstract:

This article compares the birth weights of infants born to HIV positive and negative mothers who engage in similar levels of high risk behavior such as drug use and unsafe sex. Results indicate that HIV positive women are significantly more likely to have babies with low birth weight.
