Exploration of criteria for residential and foster care

Article Abstract:

Analysis of the psychological and social features of children placed in residential and foster care in the Netherlands revealed information which may help address the 50% breakdown rate of foster placements. The investigation examined characteristics of the children who were placed in care, it looked at their development whilst in care, and it considered the psychosocial features of the children whose placements had broken down. The exploration revealed that factors influencing placement success include thorough foster family assessment and good preparation and support of parties involved in placements.
