The characteristics of children who received an oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) diagnosis by the ICD-10 criteria but not DSM- IV criteria are explored and compared with those with no antisocial disorder DSM- IV CD (conduct disorder) and DSM-IV ODD. Is there an epidemic of child or adolescent depression?

Article Abstract:

Prevalence estimates were used with children born between 1965 and 1996 to test the belief that children and adolescents of the new generation are more likely to suffer from depression than were earlier generations at the same age. It was seen that public perception of an "epidemic" might come up from heightened awareness of a disorder that was for a long time under-diagnosed by clinicians.

Specificity of putative psychosocial risk factors for psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents

Article Abstract:

New evidence about the specificity of putative psychosocial risk factors for common child and adolescent psychiatric disorders is tested. Results indicate that it was important to define risk factors and disorders narrowly and to consider developmental patterns of specificity by sex.
