Demographic and parental characteristics of youthful sexual offenders

Article Abstract:

Adolescent sexual offenders tend to come from the lower socioeconomic classes and dysfunctional families. They can be divided into pedophilic males, sexual assaulters, and mixed offense offenders. They tend to be Caucasian, Protestant, and have completed between the 7th and the 12th grade. They report that both parents suffered from child abuse and that fathers were substance abusers. These results were derived from a study of 20 years of empirical data using meta-analysis. Effects on intervention and clinical assessment are discussed.

The childhood victimization of sex offenders: an underestimated issue

Article Abstract:

The childhood victimization of sex offenders requires more focused investigation. Abused individuals are more likely to act out their abuse in future situations. A study of 286 sex offenders revealed that 70% were sexually abused and 50% were physically abused. These individuals expressed stronger feelings of alienation and dissociation than those who were not abused.

State-trait anger expression inventory scores of male sexual offenders

Article Abstract:

One hundred thirty-seven male sexual offenders were tested with the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXI) to determine how anger correlates with deviant sexual behavior. The scores of the 137 men were similar to the scores of normal men. This unexpected finding suggested the need for more research on the subject.
