Developmental consequences of poor phonological short-term memory function in childhood: A longitudinal study

Article Abstract:

A longitudinal study presented investigates the cognitive skills and scholastic attainments at 8 years of age of children selected on the basis of poor phonological loop skills at 5 years. The findings revealed that persistently poor phonological memory skills do not significantly constrain the acquisition of language, mathematics, or number skills over the early school years.

Research examines the cognitive processing skills of subjects with Williams syndrome (WS), a genetic disorder that impacts local and global processing abilities. The ability to utilize mental imagery in a block design task is discussed, as research reveals that individuals with WS were weaker in their block construction tasks than the control group.

Everyday memory and cognitive ability in children born very prematurely

Article Abstract:

Research examines the impact of hypoxia in premature children on their subsequent language and memory development. Findings suggest that preterm children may be at an increased risk for difficulties in everyday memory.
