Effectiveness of fluoxetine therapy in bulimia nervosa regardless of comorbid depression

Article Abstract:

Patients with bulimia nervosa who have been treated with fluoxetine have shown improvements in controlling binge eating and vomiting. To test the drug's effectiveness on bulimics with or without comorbid depression, data from two parallel multicenter studies were analyzed. Patients were grouped according to their scores in the 21-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression. After treatment with 60 mg of fluoxetine, the drug was found effective in bulimia nervosa, whether the patient has comorbid depression or not.
