Ego identity status and reported alcohol consumption: a study of first-year college students

Article Abstract:

A study to determine the frequency of alcohol consumption and ego identity status of 419 first-year college students was conducted using the Khavari Alcohol Test and the Extended Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status. Results show that respondents with lesser identity status sophistication elicited higher levels of alcohol intake. Inverse linear relationships exist between identity status sophistication and the level of annual alcohol consumption.

Article Abstract:

Identity development and alcohol consumption: Current and retrospective self-reports by college students

Article Abstract:

Trend analyses of the retrospective data and current data obtained from alcohol consumption and identity status questionnaires revealed somewhat similar inverse linear trends for identity status on absolute annual alcohol consumption. Identity sophistication is associated with lower levels of consumption in both cases.
