Evaluation of a computer-mediated eating disorder intervention program

Article Abstract:

Researchers investigated the effectiveness of a computer-based program as an intervention for treatment of eating disorders. The program, which comprised educational software and an e-mail support group, was delivered to a group of undergraduate women. Researchers assessed psychological functioning before and after the intervention, and compared results with those taken from a control group. Women in both groups improved all their psychological scores in similar measure over time, with an improvement in body image being the only statistically significant benefit from the computer-based intervention.

Evaluation of a computer-mediated eating disorder intervention program

Article Abstract:

Female adolescents and college students commonly have body image and excessive weight concerns, leading to disordered eating patterns. A new study evaluates an eating disorder intervention program encompassing multimedia and a computer-mediated support group. The study tests the hypothesis that women who finished the program would be happier with their bodies and their weight. It is shown that multimedia intervention may have a modest effect on reducing unhealthy eating attitudes and symptoms in college students.
