Multidimensional assessment of young male offenders in penal institutions

Article Abstract:

This article provides an examination of 103 imprisoned male offenders, in which demographic, personal history, psychological health, and diagnosis were analyzed. The author maintains that most prisoners displayed negative attitudes toward life, had high rates of aggression toward themselves, displayed behavioral, emotional, and personality disorders, and abused drugs.

Short-term outcomes for offenders with mental illness released from incarceration

Article Abstract:

This article compares the characteristics of offenders who return to prison or psychiatric hospitals with those who are able to return to the community. Topics include how the mentally ill offender experiences the criminal justice system.

Persecutory ideation and depression in mild violence among incarcerated adult males

Article Abstract:

This article examines the link between psychopathology and violent behavior in male prisoners, focusing on how a sense of hopelessness and the perception of external control is a predictor of greater victim violence. Findings also show that greater levels of psychopathology are associated with less violence.
