Fatal outcome from extreme acute gastric dilation after an eating binge

Article Abstract:

A case of a 22-year-old woman with acute gastric dilation after an eating binge, who died of complications of acute reperfusion syndrome, is described. Acute gastric dilation is very uncommon and is of various etiologies, two of these being bulimia and anorexia and such severe complications involving gastric infraction and compression of the aorta are rare.

Prevalence of eating disorders among Blacks in the National Survey of American Life

Article Abstract:

Data obtained from the National Survey of American Life (NSAL) is used to study the characteristics of the eating disorders prevalent among Caribbean African-American people. The findings reveal that eating disorders in the African-American population varies with gender, age cohort and the type of disorder.
