Foundations of psychological assessment: implications for cognitive assessment in clinical science

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze psychological assessment within the framework of psychology's attempts to establish and evaluate useful scientific concepts. An information-based, quantitative approach to theory building and testing was considered to model the dynamic and stochastic processes associated with human behavior. Results indicated an information-focused approach to establishing and evaluating theoretical models as one of the most powerful techniques that psychologists can utilize to make scientific inferences.

Multinomial processing tree models and psychological assessment

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze a category of information-processing frameworks for categorical data called multinomial processing tree models. Several examples of the use of multinomial process tree models were given. The application of such models into clinical settings were also analyzed, including the assessment of specific cognitive capacities. In addition, ways to accommodate parameter heterogeneity within a group were discussed.

Intersections and disjunctions in process-model applications

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze intersections and disjunctions in process-model applications. Conceptual, quantitative and methodology concerns of overlap were examined, including implications for innovations in clinical assessment resulting from material yields. The placement of materials from contributions within formal theory was also analyzed. In addition, challenges associated with the application of process models were examined.
