Imitation of gestures in children is goal-directed

Article Abstract:

A goal representation appears to mediate imitation in children, according to results of experiments focusing on errors of reproduction in pre-school children. The saliency of possible goals was manipulated experimentally while maintaining similarity of the hand movement to be imitated.

A series of experiments shows that the effect of an observed causal movement influences its representation. Topics discussed include theories of retroactive interference and false post-event information.

Short-term forgetting of order under conditions of reduced interference

This article describes examination of short-term memory. Experiment design, possible causes for a low forgetting rate, and similarity with earlier results are discussed.
