Article Abstract:

Factors that influence society's awareness of and preparedness for disasters are investigated on the basis of a survey conducted in 2000 using a representative sample size of 500 survivors living in temporary prefabricated houses. The basic findings of the survey indicate that education is the most important independent variable influencing preparedness for earthquake and hence more attention must be devoted to comprehensive educational activities.
