Impression management concerns and reinforcement interventions

Article Abstract:

The effects that impression management concerns have on the perceptions of an intervention are examined. A description of a reinforcement intervention was given to the study subjects, who were than asked to assess how employees involved in the intervention might react. The description of the intervention varied; in one scenario, an immediate supervisor delivered the reinforcement, in another description the person delivering the reinforcement was not an immediate supervisor. The description also varied as to whether the reinforcement was given privately or publicly. The subjects' perception of the intervention was affected by the manner in which it was delivered; the position of the reinforcing agent affected the subjects' perceptions.

The effect of administrative accounts and gender on the perception of leadership

Article Abstract:

Eighty-four male and 51 female undergraduate management students were asked to read descriptions of a female or male library director who did not distribute funds according to organizational needs. The participants were informed that such distribution did or did not occur in the past. The participants were then asked to assess ten possible accounts for the behavior. Results indicate that an earlier history of misappropriation, gender of directors, and participant gender all affected how acceptable some of the accounts were.

Test of the path-goal theory of leadership in the multinational domain

Article Abstract:

Relations between the behaviors of leaders and of subordinates is measured according to satisfaction and performance. The results take into consideration growth need, task scope, and locus of control. The research supports path-goal theory's claim according to the satisfaction level though there is no support for performance.
