Resilience, desistance and delinquent career of adolescent offenders

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the resilience and desistance from delinquent behaviors and on the factors which predict delinquency between adolescence and early childhood. The findings indicate the existence of important age-related differences in the characteristics which influence desistance or risk. Moreover, length of stay in an institution was cited as a predictor and desistance from further delinquency appears to be dependent on the time spent in the residential surrounding associated with an increase of guilt.

Peer-led intitiatives can bring a number of health benefits by boosting self-esteem , locus of control and self-efficacy. Reciprocal peer support can be especially helpful in improving confidence, skill levels and a feeling of self-efficacy, and so help to promote teenage health.
