The psychoanalysis of an adult survivor of incest: a case study

Article Abstract:

A case study of psychoanalytic treatment of an adult woman survivor of childhood incest illustrates the application of Karen Horney's theory to trauma. The patient began treatment after experiencing vivid flashbacks of the incest. Her family history, trauma history and treatment are described, with indications of future treatment directions. The main focus in treatment was on the transfer and externalization of the idealized image from the patient's family to the therapist.
