Individual and familial characteristics of youths involved in street corner gangs in Singapore

Article Abstract:

Comparison between thirty-six youths in street corner gangs in Singapore with 91 age-matched controls on measures of self-esteem, aggression, dysfunctional parenting and parent-adolescent communication is presented. Results revealed that gang youths had lower self-esteem and higher levels of aggression than controls.

Parent-child interaction and children's depression: the relationships between parent-child interaction and children's depressive symptoms in Taiwan

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to examine how perceptions of parenting and family messages are associated with the depressive symptoms of early adolescents from East Taiwan. According to this study higher levels of parental care and low levels of parental difference were associated with lower depression scores.

Adolescents and their parents' perceptions about parenting characteristics. Who can better predict the adolescent's academic competence?

Article Abstract:

The family factors reported by parents and their children in relation to children academic performance is examined. A study was conducted on the relationship between the family and education that also covers the influence of parental educational practices in the academic competence of the adolescent.
