Marriage and the spiritual realm: The role of proximal and distal religious constructs in marital functioning

Article Abstract:

Surveys suggest that religion may be important in many marriages. Couples were questioned about their involvement in joint religious activities and their perceptions of the sanctification of marriage. Proximal religious variables were found to directly reflect an integration of religion and marriage and were associated with greater global marital adjustment, and less marital conflict.

Article Abstract:

Religion is a fruitful, relevant area of study for family psychology. Future research in this area will be best served by exploring specific ways particular aspects of religious life relate to precise areas of marriage and family functioning.
