Measuring binge eating in adolescents: adolescent and parent versions of the Questionnaire of Eating and Weight Patterns

Article Abstract:

Parental perceptions of episodic overeating, binge eating and distress connected with eating are similar to those of their children when no such eating problems exist, according to research into the psychometric properties of an adolescent version of the Questionnaire of Eating and Weight Patterns. However, when children and adolescents indicate difficulties with binge eating, parents are less likely to know that there is a problem. There is evidence that adolescents with binge eating disorder experience similar difficulties to those experienced by adolescents with anorexia nervosa.
