Mitochondrial DNA hypervariable region-1 sequence variation and phylogeny of the concolor gibbons, Nomascus

Article Abstract:

A phylogeographic study of the genus concolor gibbons to examine the DNA sequences from the highly variable mitochondrial hypervariable region-1 (HVR-1 or control region) is presented. HVR-1 sequence variable is identified as significant units to define evolution in Nomascus sufficient to characterize their phylogeographic history when coupled with multilocus microsatellite or SNP genotyping.

Do cavity-nesting primates reduce scent marking before retirement to avoid attracting predators to sleeping sites?

Article Abstract:

A generalized linear model repeated-measures analysis that was used to compare rates of daytime scent marking with rates of marking before retirement for males and females is discussed. It is felt that GLTs do not attempt to minimize predation risk by decreasing scent marking in the period before they enter their sleeping site.
