Modeling dichromatic and trichromatic sensitivity to the color properties of fruits eaten by squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus)

Article Abstract:

The reflectance spectra of fruits and flowers eaten by a troop of squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus) in Eastern Amazon are measured using a spectrophotometer. The model predicted that trichromatic phenotypes would have an advantage over dichromats in detecting fruits and flowers from background foliage, which suggests that heterosis is the mechanism for maintaining polymorphism in S. sciureus.

Color vision in marmosets and tamarins: Behavioral evidence

Article Abstract:

Differences in the relative performance of marmosets and tamarins tested in series of color discrimination experiments are demonstrated. Results show behavioral evidence for the existence of four distinct kinds of color-vision phenotypes, each of which has slightly different color discrimination abilities.

Influence of stimuli size on color discrimination in capuchin monkeys

Article Abstract:

The performance of five male and three female-tufted capuchin monkeys are compared in discriminating pairs of Munsell color papers. The dichromatic monkeys exhibited the same performance for both stimuli size.
