Neighbor effect: Evidence of affiliative and agonistic social contagion in captive chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes)

Article Abstract:

The relationship between behavior patterns in focal animals and the auditory signals of neighboring social groups is studied. Results suggest that there is a relationship between grooming vocalizations in focal groups and neighboring groups and that a social contagion is not limited to aggressive behaviors, but also occur for affiliative behavior patterns.
