On the relations among different measures of visible and informational persistence

Article Abstract:

Research aimed to determine whether three measures of visible and information persistence, measure the same underlying metal entity. The research was undertaken using state-trace analysis, a superset of dissociation logic, in a context of systematic empirical foundation. The theory was applied to data obtained from seven related experiments, assuming that first stages of the visual system operate as a low-pass linear filter, instant rate of information acquisition is proportional to sensory-response magnitude and the determination of partial-report performance by amount of acquired information.

Adding apples and oranges: Alignment of semantic and formal knowledge

Article Abstract:

It is shown that the same mechanism mediating analogical reasoning, can lead to interpretive content effects in reasoning about arithmetic word problems. College students and textbook writers often construct arithmetic word problems, maintaining a systematic link between semantic relations and mathematical relations. These relational alignments, or semantic alignments, result in selective application of abstract formal knowledge.

Informativity and asymmetry in comparisons

Article Abstract:

Three existing approaches to comparison asymmetries are reviewed including feature contrast, stimulus bias and cognitive reference to points. It is hypothesized that comparison asymmetries are the result of directional differences in informativity and that asymmetries could be predicted from the degree of systematicity. A unified approach to the directionality of literal comparisons, analogies and metaphors is demonstrated.
