Parasites of free-ranging Black Howler monkeys (Alouatta pigra) from Belize and Mexico

Article Abstract:

Study is presented in which a total of 283 fecal samples were collected from 50 individually identified black howler monkey (Alouatta pigra) during 2003 and 2004 are examined for parasites. It is seen that Alouatta pigra individuals that stayed near human settlements in Belize were infected with Giardia duodenalis Assemblages A and B.

Demographic survey of black howler monkey (Alouatta pigra) in the Lachua Eco-region in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala

Article Abstract:

The first census of the Alouatta pigra in the Lachua Eco-region in the northwestern Guatemala, conducted between September 2002 and April 2003, is discussed. The finding of the survey and the conservation difficulties for the black howler population with the likely conservation conditions are described.

Observed case of infanticide committed by a resident male Central American Black Howler monkey (Alouatta pigra)

Article Abstract:

An infanticide was observed in an intensive observational study of Alouatta pigra. The explanation from the data shows sexual selection and resource-competition hypotheses.
