Parental divorce and premarital couple communication

Article Abstract:

It is hypothesized that family-of-origin experiences have a significant impact on adult couple relationships. The proposal that a family history of parental divorce would be linked to communication and conflict management skill deficits, was tested. Higher levels of negative communication behaviors were seen in couples where the woman's parents had divorced, and lower rates of positive problem-focused behaviour were seen. However the male partners' parental divorce was not linked to observed communication behavior of couples.

Effects of interpersonal control, perspective taking, and attributions on older mothers' and adult daughters' satisfaction with their helping relationships

Article Abstract:

The most significant predictors of relationship satisfaction between mothers and daughters were their feelings of interpersonal control and their ability to correctly perceive partners' feelings about the helping relationship. Most accurate predictors of individual satisfaction were feelings of interpersonal control and attributions made about a partner during negative helping situations.
