Perceptions of parental involvement and support as predictors of college students' persistence in a science curriculum

Article Abstract:

The way the perceived parental involvement and support predicts the college students' persistence in science is examined. The perceived parental autonomy supports predicted scientific persistence partly through students' autonomy and the perceived parental involvement and support have specific roles in predicting student self-process and achievement, highlighting the importance of sustaining parents' contribution for college students.

Attachment to parents and psychological well-being: An examination of young adult college students in intact families and stepfamilies

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to evaluate attachment of young adult college students in intact families and stepfamilies to their parents as a possible explanation for discrepancies in psychological well-being. The results revealed that attachment was a significant predictor of emotional, social, physical and psychological well-being

Attachment and control in family and mentoring contexts as determinants of adolescent adjustment to college

Article Abstract:

Adolescents' perceptions of security and control in teacher or mentor relationships were examined to determine if they predict their adjustment to college. Paternal control was found to be predictive of adjustment.
