Practitioner review: Short-term and working memory impairments in neurodevelopmental disorders: Diagnosis and remedial support

Article Abstract:

An introduction to current models of working and short-term memory, their links with learning and diagnosis of impairments is presented. It is concluded that impairments of short-term and working memory are associated with learning difficulties that can be substantial and that can be minimized by appropriate methods of remedial support.

A structural analysis of working memory and related cognitive skills in young children

Article Abstract:

The relationship between cognitive abilities in young children and the functional organisation of their working memory is investigated. A sample of 633 children aged between 4 and 6 years were tested for short-term memory span, sentence repetition, phonological awareness and nonverbal ability.
