Preschool children's responses to affective information about anticipated events

Article Abstract:

Preschool children's reactions to information presented regarding an anticipated event were studied in experimental conditions involving positive, neutral and fearful information conditions. A no-information condition was included for comparison. Younger children's behavior toward the stimulus was completely inhibited under the fearful descriptive condition, while that of older children was less affected. The positive information condition, on the other hand, failed to induce positive behavior among the children. These results suggest that positive and negative expectations differentially affect children's behavior.

The role of attention in children's time perception

Article Abstract:

Two experiments conducted among children showed that attention significantly affected their time perception. Retrospective estimates were found to be lower than prospective time estimates. Shorter estimates were also given when attention was veered away from the task. These results imply that the time perception process is similar among children and adults. They also confirm that prospective time perception is attention-based while retrospective time perception is dependent on memory.
