Prevalence of infection with HIV among the seriously mentally ill: review of research and implications for practice

Article Abstract:

Records of seriously mentally ill patients show that 4-23% are also HIV positive. Thus, psychologists must also recognize the need to provide medical services for these patients apart from their psychological therapy. A greater number of these patients are also male. Thus, the range of services that may be offered for patients undergoing treatment for serious mental illness include education and risk reduction counseling, antibody testing and risk assessment studies.
