Prospective minority students' perceptions of application packets for professional psychology programs: a qualitative study

Article Abstract:

A study of the attitudes of 22 Black and Hispanic students of doctoral studies or school psychology revealed that factors including financial assistance, quality of the program constituents and demography of the student sample as major influences on the subjects' evaluation of program-application strategies pertaining to professional psychology. This insightful study employed a think-aloud procedure and semistructured interviews to gain insight on the students' perceptions.

Toward achieving multidisciplinary professional collaboration

The psychological discipline has come to appreciate the importance of collaborating closely with other professions, thereby enhancing the field through interdisciplinary cooperation. Collaborative service has been ushered in through educational patterns crossing disciplines, and enhanced cooperation among teams of researchers with common interests but diverse disciplinary objectives, striving to enhance their respective disciplines.

Sport psychology, a combination of sport sciences and psychology, is a new field of interest, wherein psychologists can employ innovations in diversifying their practice. Training in psychological skills has great benefits in enhancing the performance of sportspersons.
