Psychosocial variables involved in the construction of lay thinking about the economy: results of a cross-national survey

Article Abstract:

The relationship between the psychosocial variables and lay economic thought is explored by using data from eight countries. The cultural variations of individual difference variables like locus of control (LOC) is described and the results verified the relationship between internal LOC, a free-enterprise view of the economy and higher satisfaction with private and public economy.

An analysis of the differences in economic beliefs in eight nations, i.e., Austria, France, Greece, Israel, New Zealand, Singapore, Slovenia, and Turkey is presented. The economic beliefs varied based on economic development and modernization.
