Putting creativity to work: effects of leader behavior on subordinate creativity

Article Abstract:

Subordinate creativity can be considerably increased with the correct leader behaviour, according to a study which used existing models of creative performance to determine three leader behaviours which could have an impact on the creativity of subordinates. The findings of the study have a number of implications for understanding creative performance, including the fact that leaders should use subordinates with a good knowledge of the problem concerned or provide them with effective training if they want originality, and that they should not force subordinates to use this information in a standardised way. They should instead strive to boost the use of different perspectives.
