Responses of squirrel monkeys to seasonal changes in food availability in an eastern Amazonian forest

Article Abstract:

Seasonal changes in diet and foraging behaviors of two groups of squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus), studied for 12 months in eastern Brazilian Amazonia, an area characterized by seasonal rainfall, are studied. It is seen that Saimiri use a variety of behavioral tactics during reduced periods of fruit availability, when compared with squirrel monkeys at other locations, across their geographic range.

Age and seasonal effects on predator-sensitive foraging in squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus): A field experiment

Article Abstract:

The effect of perceived predation risk on the use of foraging areas by juvenile and adult primates under different conditions of local food abundance is examined with a field experiment. Findings show that both age and seasonal factors can affect predator sensitive-foraging in neotropical primates.

Seasonality of reproduction in captive squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus)

Article Abstract:

The effect of environmental factors on seasonality of reproduction of squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciuerus) in captivity is examined. Environmental factors including rainfall, temperature and photoperiod are some of the proximate factors that have affected the timing of mating and reproduction.
