Rural and urban differences in the commission of animal cruelty

Article Abstract:

The role of several demographic characteristics, childhood and adolescent exposure to animal cruelty and the species type targeted might affect acts of animal cruelty among an incarcerated sample is investigated. Rural inmates learnt to be cruel by watching family members exclusively, whereas urban inmates learned from family members and friends and urban inmates chose dogs, cats and wild animals as their target animals, but rural inmates chose only cats.

Restructuring sex offender sentencing: a therapeutic jurisprudence approach to the criminal justice process

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the issues and problems associated with treating sex offenders within the criminal justice system. The author examines specialized treatment for sex offenders, arguing the current criminal justice system enforces policies that discourage the offender from meaningful participation, and suggests that the therapeutic needs of the sex offender become a priority in treatment.
