A criminological research agenda for the next millennium

Article Abstract:

Longitudinal studies in criminology provide knowledge about how criminal careers develop and highlight the importance of identifying risk factors. Experimental studies provide examples of causes in criminal behavior. Both approaches must be used in the 21st century to provide a foundation for advances in crime prevention. Longitudinal studies collect data related to social risk factors and criminal history. Experimental studies focus on intervention and results.

The contribution of family adversity and verbal IQ to criminal behavior

Article Abstract:

Research examines a criminological model that reveals how the interaction of family adversity and verbal IQ can increase the likelihood of certain types of criminal behavior. Findings suggest that the combination of family adversity and low verbal IQ ratings at age 7 in African-American youth can increase the likelihood of offending at a younger age.
