Selected executive skills in adolescents with recent first episode major depression

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to investigate whether latest first episode major depression in adolescence is characterized by selected executive difficulties in attentional flexibility, behavioral inhibition, and decision-making. Findings reveal that adolescents with latest first episode major depression reveal greater attention towards sad stimuli and more impulsive behavior when making decisions.

Methylphenidate improves working memory and set-shifting in AD/HD: relationships to baseline memory capacity

Article Abstract:

A chemical Methylphenidate was found to improve performance on working memory (WM) visual search and attentional-set shifting during a study on a group of attention deficit (AD) hyperactivity disorder (HD) children. The results of the study support the hypothesis that methylphenidate modulates performance of tasks dependent on intact fronto-striatal structures.

Attention difficulties and mood-related ruminative response style in adolescents with unipolar depression

Article Abstract:

An experiment that was carried out to find out if mood-related ruminations are specifically associated with slowed ability in switching attention from one task to another is described. It is seen that depressed adolescents showed dual deficits in mood-related ruminative thinking and attention.
