Selective processing of eating disorder relevant stimuli: does the Stroop test provide an objective measure of bulimia nervosa

Article Abstract:

The modified Stroop test is increasingly used as an objective measure of several clinical disorders, including bulimia nervosa. A study designed to reexamine the Stroop test in women with eating disorders and to analyse specificity is presented. The results show that the use of the modified Stroop effect as an accurate measure of response to treatment of bulimia nervosa is questionable.

Binge eating in bariatric surgery patients

Article Abstract:

Researchers investigated attitudes and behaviors in 64 obese patients who were seeking gastric bypass surgery. They found that 39% of the patients could be classified as binge eaters due to their reporting of an average of at least one binge episode per week. A quarter of the patients reported at least two binge eating episodes per week. Binge eaters scored significantly higher than the other patients on the disinhibition and hunger scales in the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire.
