Social support, spiritual program and addiction recovery

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to compare personal and emotional modifications of inmates who were recovering addicts and who participated on one of two year-long therapeutic intervention programs, one including social support and experiential spiritual program components and the other including primarily social support. The results seem to support the hypothesis and inmates participating in the 12-step program demonstrated a higher sense of coherence and meaning in life.

The Personal Concerns Inventory (Offender Adaptation): Measuring and enhancing motivation to change

Article Abstract:

The Personal Concerns Inventory (PCI) was developed to assess motivation to change in a person with addictive behaviors, which focuses on identifying goals in a wide variety of life areas, and two profiles - adaptive and maladaptive are identified. The PCI Offender Adaptation (OA) has promise for use with offenders, though a further research is needed to understand if PCI (OA) will be viewed as a measure of motivation or a motivational enhancer.
