Sociodemographic and psychological predictors of changes in dietary fat consumption in adults with high blood cholesterol following counseling in primary care

Article Abstract:

This article examines psychosocial factors involved in lowering dietary fat consumption in patients with high cholesterol over a four month period. Results indicate that behavioral counseling resulted in greater fat intake reductions than standard dietary advice and that variables such as family support and self-efficacy also facilitated behavior modification.

Depressive symptoms, social support, and personal health behaviors in young men and women

Article Abstract:

This article investigates the relationship between depression, social support, and health behavior among an international sample of college students. Findings indicate that depression is associated with behaviors including decreased exercise, poor eating habits, and smoking while weak social support is associated with behaviors like irregular sleep and limited seat belt use.

Psychosocial and socioeconomic factors associated with glycated hemoglobin in nondiabetic middle aged men and women

Article Abstract:

Several tests have shown that glycated hemoglobin, control at work, internal and chance locus of control had strong effects on the socioeconomic status and psychological factors of civil servants in Britain. It was found that the social support, but not the psychosocial factors was independent of the socioeconomic status.
