Teenage smoking in China

Article Abstract:

The Chinese smoke more cigarettes than anyone else in the world and 50 million children can expect to die as a result of smoking. Health education programmes are a priority because 61% of smokers are unaware of the health risks. Unfortunately, television programmes and films depict smoking as fashionable and teenagers copy this example. Financial penalties are needed for producers who persist in showing smoking like this. Making cigarettes more expensive would be effective and the anti-smuggling campaign being run in China will make foreign cigarettes harder to acquire.

Teenage mothers as breastfeeders: attitudes and behavior

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the breastfeeding decisions of 55 young mothers and expectant mothers. Results show that subjects decide on whether to breastfeed during late pregnancy and that they only breastfeed for a short duration. The breastfeeding decisions of older mothers were found to be based on the advise of partners and their own mothers. Results offer ways to promote breastfeeding among young mothers.
