The criminality of former "special educational provision" permanently "excluded from school" adolescents as young adults (16-23): costs and practical implications

Article Abstract:

Police records were used to investigate the range, extent and type of subsequent crimes committed by former permanently excluded teenagers who required special educational provision and were enrolled into an Educational Behaviorally Disturbed Unit. Two-thirds of the teenagers had criminal convictions after leaving school while 30% had spent some time in custody. Offender Reconviction Group Scale findings showed that 42% were likely to recommit their most serious offence after two years.
