Rating child psychiatric caseness from detailed case histories

Article Abstract:

An operationalized top-down technique is used to effectively determine psychiatric disorders in 151 school children with hemiplegia. Detailed case histories are used to define caseness narrowly in terms of social incapabilities or broadly in terms of disruption and distress. The ratings of psychiatric caseness or non-caseness are reliable and valid. Both the definitions are valid for children with normal intelligence, while caseness in terms of distress is more reliable for less intelligent children. The ICD-10 and DSM-IV disability scales fail to categorize the learning disabled children with additional disabilities.

Are only children different? A study of child psychiatric referrals. A research note

Article Abstract:

Five year old only children are more likely to develop psychiatric problems than those from two-child families. However, children aged above 5 years from both groups show hardly any difference. The parents of only children show more willingness to approach medical service for advice than the parents of the two-child families. Both groups of parents are similar in their overprotective behavior patterns.
