Investigating the structure of the restricted, repetitive behaviors and interests domain of autism

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the factor structure of Restricted, Repetitive Behaviors and Interests (RRBI) domain of autism, in a sample of 339 individuals diagnosed for pervasive developmental disorder (PDD). Findings indicated that the RRBI domain is composed of two distinct factors, Insistence on Sameness (IS), and Repetitive Sensory and Motor Behaviors (RSMB), where RSMB is negatively correlated with adaptive skills, and IS positively correlated with autistic symptoms in the communication and language domain.

Disembedding performance and recognition memory in autism/PDD

Article Abstract:

The process of encoding meaningful information by adults with autism/pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) is similar to that by normal adults. Disembedding is slowest from meaningful contexts in both the autistic/PDD and normal groups. Besides extracting meaning from the original memory, the individuals with autism/PDD use information to enhance memory. The individuals with autism/PDD and normals have more problems disembedding from abstract than from fragmented contexts.
