The development of geographic categories and biases

Article Abstract:

This article examines the perceptions of geography among children. The authors, having the participants estimate the locations of major cities in North America, maintain at age 9 participants were only able to distinguish their home region and at age 11 participants divided North America into four regions that were based upon national boundaries and psychological border zones.

The relationship between auditory temporal processing, phonemic awareness, and reading disability

Article Abstract:

This article examines auditory temporal deficit as a contributing factor to reading disability. The authors, employing a tone-order judgement task, concludes there is little evidence to support the notion that auditory temporal processing difficulty is related to reading disabilities.

What makes counting count? Verbal and visuo-spatial contributions to typical and atypical number development

Article Abstract:

This article examines numerical cognition in Williams Syndrome patients. The authors, testing 14 children with Williams Syndrome, conclude visuo-spatial ability plays a stronger role thatn language ability in numerical cognition, especially with cardinality understanding.
