The effect of a reduced energy diet and meal patterns on smoking and coffee drinking in women

Article Abstract:

The effect of food deprivation and changes in meal pattern on the rates of smoking and coffee drinking was determined by using analysis of variance on data gathered from four selected women with 3-year history of smoking 15 or more cigarettes and coffee consumption of 3 or more cups per day and were subjected to NORMAL, ONE, and THREE meal menu packages for three days. There was no significant change in cigarette and coffee consumption under short-term food deprivation conditions due to the insufficiency implicated by ethical issues surrounding the deprivation measure.

Suppressing thoughts about chocolate

Article Abstract:

Chocolate cravers and non-chocolate cravers are both able to suppress chocolate-related thoughts, according to research designed to establish whether suppressing thoughts about chocolate leads to a subsequent rise in the performance of behaviours related to those thoughts. This research used a C++ version of Apple Picker, with the apples picked being exchanged for chocolate later. Both cravers and noncravers showed ironic effects on the Apple Picker task. It appears that mental control may lead to a loss, instead of a gain, in behavioural control.
