The effects of partner insistence of condom usage on perceptions of the partner, the relationship, and the experience

Article Abstract:

Sexually active heterosexual male and female college students generally regard a sexual partner who insists on the use of a condom positively. Such partners are seen as more caring, more deserving of respect and less likely to have a sexually transmitted disease than those who do not insist on the use of a condom. Most participants in this research felt that condom usage indicated greater relational intimacy than not using a condom. This research did not confirm the view of many college students that insisting on the use of a condom would be perceived by the partner as indicating the presence of a sexually transmitted disease.

The AIDS awareness and sexual behaviour of young people in the South-west of England

Article Abstract:

A survey conducted among English adolescents indicated a high degree of AIDS awareness but low rates of perceived vulnerability to infection. The results of this study point towards the need to encourage 'safe sex' practices among the youth. The early onset of sexual awareness calls for earlier introduction to sex education and AIDS prevention programs. Safe sex can be promoted by utilizing media faclities and peer influence.
