The efficacy of structural ecosystems therapy with drug-abusing/dependent African American and Hispanic American adolescents

Article Abstract:

A study to establish whether ecological interventions contribute to the impact of family therapy above and beyond contributions of family process-only interventions is conducted. Comparison between structural ecosystem therapy with family process-only condition and community services control approaches suggest the importance of investigating changes in adolescent drug use as a result of treatment condition across more than 1 racial group.

Efficacy of intervention for engaging youth and families into treatment and some variables that may contribute to differential effectiveness

Article Abstract:

Strategic Structural Systems Engagement (SSSE), as a specialized engagement intervention, is an effective family therapy approach. Cultural and ethnic variables significantly affect the outcome of the intervention. Eighty one percent of the SSSE families in one study remained engaged in the therapy as compared to 60% of the non-SSSE families. Contextual conditions are important for effectiveness of therapeutic interventions.
